Star fullback Valentine Holmes has steered his side to victory off his own boot for the second time this season, with his last-gasp field goal handing the Cowboys a 29-28 win over the Warriors.
North Queensland looked destined to come up short when their 16-point lead at half-time was quickly erased as the Warriors led by six points with less than ten minutes remaining.
The Warriors notched four consecutive tries before speedster Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow levelled the match with five minutes remaining.
Then with less than 60 seconds to go, Holmes stepped up and slotted a near 40-metre field goal to win the match for the Cowboys. Initially, it looked to be a two-point field goal before replays showed Holmes was a matter of millimetres inside the 40-metre line.
“You can’t strike it any better than that!” commentator Warren Smith told Fox League.
“He’s done it again! Valentine Holmes wins the game for the Cowboys.”
It’s the second time this season Holmes has won the match off his own boot after the fullback earlier this month slotted a match-winning field against the Broncos.
While tonight didn’t go as planned for the Warriors, teen sensation Reece Walsh was once again a shining light for the club.
Walsh during the second half made the Cowboys pay for coughing up possession as he found the ball in space to race away down the sideline for an 85-metre try,
“He is a triple-A rated, gold plated superstar!” Smith said.

Rugby league great Brent Tate added: “Origin is just around the corner and I’m sure (Maroons coach) Paul Green will be looking closely.
“The way he’s gone about his business tonight, he has had a first-class, gold plated touch about it.”
