Obscene Mayweather exhibition payday revealed

Social media influencer Logan Paul will receive less than a fifth of Floyd Mayweather’s reported purse but will still walk away with tens of millions of dollars for Monday’s (AEST) fight with the undefeated boxing legend.

Paul will earn a reported $A26m for the exhibition bout against Mayweather, but it’s table salt compared to what the fight legend will reportedly earn for fighting the novice.

It’s understood the 50-0 star will bank $A132 million. Mayweather described the exhibition as “legalised bank robbery” and an opportunity he couldn’t pass up.

“I worked extremely hard for years and years to get to a certain level. A level where we can start calling everything an event,” he said on the “‘Inside Mayweather vs. Paul” hype show.

“I believe in working smarter, not harder.

“So if it’s something easy like (the Paul fight), a legalised bank robbery, I gotta do it. I have to do it.”

The clash won’t be included on Mayweather’s professional record. The stoush will be Paul’s third bout in a boxing ring, with the other two fights a mix of amateur and professional contests.

The older Paul brother drew an amateur fight against fellow internet star KSI in 2018, before turning pro and losing their rematch the following year.

Mayweather has been linked with a fight against his younger brother Jake after this fight.

When asked about the possibility of fighting both brothers, Leonard Ellerbie, CEO of Mayweather promotions, refused to rule it out.

“Who knows? Who knows what the future might hold,” he said.

“But right now we have a huge, huge event, it’s the biggest event of the year in the sport of boxing and we’re just really, really excited.”
