Pickett suspended after late hit on young Lion

Richmond midfielder Marlion Pickett has been handed a one-match ban by the AFL’s Match Review Officer for his high hit on Brandon Starcevich in the loss to Brisbane.

The incident occurred in the final quarter of Brisbane’s 28-point win at the Gabba when a frustrated Pickett collected Starcevich high with a swinging arm after Starcevich had released a kick.

Pickett’s hit on Starcevich was classified as “careless conduct, medium impact and high contact”, which gives the 29-year-old the option of accepting a one-match ban with an early plea.

The incident involving Pickett and Starcevich sparked a melee involving a number of players from both Richmond and Brisbane, with Dustin Martin also involved, however no players involved were cited by the MRO.

It remains unclear whether Richmond will contest Pickett’s one-match ban, particularly with the midfield reinforcements on the horizon.

Captain Trent Cotchin, young gun Shai Bolton and Dion Prestia could all be available for Richmond when it takes on Adelaide at the MCG in Round 11.
