Postecoglou enters European football furnace

Australian football fans can ride with Ange Postecoglou as he enters the European football furnace with Celtic on Wednesday morning.

The former Socceroos coach will manage his first competitive match with Celtic in their second round Champions League qualifying match against Danish side FC Midtjylland.

Postecoglou was appointed coach of the storied Scottish giants last month in a watershed moment for Australian football managers.

And Stan Sport will bring you full coverage of both legs of the high stakes clash with Midtjylland, kicking off at 4.41am AEST at Glasgow’s Celtic Park on July 21.

The return match is in Herning next Thursday.

Postecoglou is demanding more from his players after being beaten 1-0 by Preston North End in a pre-season friendly.

“It wasn’t a great game for us – we didn’t start well and lost a bit of belief,” the 55-year-old told Celtic TV.

“We’re building towards a good fitness level. It’s a very young group at the moment that we’re throwing out there.

“It’s no secret that we need to bring some players in and we’re working hard to do that.

“We’ve got to be ready.”

Celtic’s squad includes Socceroos midfielder Tom Rogic while fellow Aussie international Awer Mabil is on the books of Midtjylland.

The matches mark the start of a new era for football broadcasting in Australia with Stan last month announcing a long-term partnership agreement with UEFA.

Stan has secured exclusive broadcast rights to every match of the Champions League, Europa League, Europa Conference League, UEFA Youth League and UEFA Super Cup for the next three seasons.
