Raiders awarded controversial eight-point try

The Raiders couldn’t have asked for a better start after being awarded an eight-point try during the opening 10 minutes against the Sharks tonight.

Braydon Trindall was placed on report and pulled up by referee Grant Atkins after he appeared to make some added contact on Raiders winger Jordan Rapana, who had just grounded the ball.

Rapana was awarded the try before it was sent up to the bunker for a further review on whether an eight-pointer should apply.

The bunker official in charge of the review said: “Jordan Rapana has grounded the ball. In the process of scoring the try, Braydon Trindall has hit Jordan Rapana high.”

However, the decision to award an eight-point try was met with controversy after Balmain Tigers great Steve Roach felt Trindall was hard done by.

“What’s Braydon Trindall supposed to do?” Roach asked in commentary for Fox League.

“Jordan Rapana is diving over the line, and Trindall is coming across to make the tackle

“What else can he do? He can’t disappear.”
