Brooks Koepka’s bitter feud with American compatriot Bryson DeChambeau has reared its head in a stunning piece of leaked footage.
In an interview with the Golf Channel, Koepka was responding to a question when he saw DeChambeau walking by.
Koepka had been venting about his woes with the putter, which had hindered his game at The Ocean Course in the PGA Championship. The 31-year-old tied with Louis Oosthuizen in second as Phil Mickelson, who’ll turn 51 next month, became golf’s oldest major winner.
“I felt it difficult to read sometimes,” Koepka said.
DeChambeau murmured a sledge as he walked past Koepka in the interview, saying: “Just gotta start it on the right line.”
It distracted Koepka to the point that he lost track of what he was saying, his eyes rolling as he froze.
The four-time major winner tried to resume speaking, before telling Golf Channel reporter Todd Lewis: “I lost my train of thought, hearing that bulls–t. F–king Christ.”
Following the bizarre encounter, Lewis quipped: “We’re going to enjoy that back at the TV bunker.”
But so fierce is Koepka’s disdain for DeChambeau that he couldn’t care less.
“I honestly wouldn’t even care,” Koepka said.
The feud kicked off in January 2019 when Brooks took aim at DeChambeau for slow play during the Dubai Desert Classic.
DeChambeau struck back after seeing a topless photo of Brooks in ESPN’s The Body Issue in January 2020.
“I don’t think his genetics even make him look good,” DeChambeau said.
“Did you see The Body Issue? He didn’t have any abs. I have abs.”
Koepka hit back in a Twitter post, throwing up a picture of his four major trophies and writing: “You were right Bryson DeChambeau I am 2 short of a 6 pack!”
At the time of that exchange DeChambeau hadn’t won a major, but he changed that when he clinched victory at the 2020 US Open.
Koepka and DeChambeau were Ryder Cup teammates in 2018. When they arrive at Whistling Straits for the 43rd edition of the event in September, the golf world will be watching on in anticipation of more fireworks.
